Natural & Cheap Ways to Clean Your Colon

The colon is the part of the digestive system in charge of eliminating waste and toxins from the body. When it doesn't do its job due to a build up in waste, the toxins do not leave the body, but instead become reabsorbed and the waste putrefies in the intestines, creating serious health problems. Symptoms of a blocked or toxic colon include: stomach pain, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, headaches, fatigue, poor immunity and skin problems. The colon becomes a breeding ground for disease and even cancer becomes a risk.

Cleansing

There are many natural ways to keep the colon clear. The first thing to consider is how much fiber is in your diet. It is recommended that people consume between 20 to 35 grams of fiber daily. This amount must be built up to very slowly. There are herbs that are very cheap and available in supermarkets that contain high amounts of fiber. Psyllium husk and flax seeds are the main herbs for helping to clear he colon. They form a gel like substance in the colon that picks up debris as it is flushed out of the colon. These herbs absorb a lot of water and a lot of water is needed to flush them through your system.

Water is essential to healthy colon function. Eight to twelve glasses of water should be consumed daily, as well as a lot of fruit and vegetables. Green vegetables contain antioxidants and essential minerals, and they also help to flush toxins from the system. High water fruits and vegetables, such as apples and carrots, help to cleanse the colon as they are digested.

Fasting is the cheapest and fastest way to cleanse the colon. There are different types of fasts to achieve this. You can only eat fruit and vegetables or drink fruit and vegetable juice for ten days. Or you can do a lemon cleanse. This involves adding one tbsp of honey or grade B maple syrup, a pinch of cayenne pepper and the juice of half a lemon to a glass of purified water. The fast involves drinking twelve glasses of the lemon mixture daily for anywhere between three to ten days.

Avoid refined sugars and highly processed foods, as these block the colon. Eat whole wheat bread, pasta and brown rice. This will eliminate a large portion of refined sugars from the diet. Be aware of drinking too many dehydrating drinks, such as coffee. Green tea is a recommended alternative.

Probiotics

In order to keep a healthy digestive function, probiotics are a necessity. These are the live healthy bacteria in the stomach, also known as intestinal flora, which help to keep away harmful bacteria and keep the intestines healthy and functioning well. When flushing the system of a lot of toxins, the bacteria can become imbalanced in the stomach, so it is essential to replenish the bacteria and keep the stomach healthy and strong.

Probiotics can be found in fermented foods, such as yogurt. Make sure the label specifies that the yogurt contains live active cultures. You can also buy probiotics from drug stores and supermarkets.
